Near black melons that look like pumpkins! What a perfect quirky twist for the goth garden.
A French classic with incredible fragrance and flavor. Noir des Carmes (“Black of the Carmelites”) sets small, round melons with a deep green, nearly black rind and distinct ribbing. At maturity the skin blushes from dark green toward olive-orange, the garden smells like perfume, and the fruit slips from the stem with a gentle twist. Inside is dense, glowing orange flesh that’s sweet, juicy, and intensely aromatic, makes for a nice chilled dessert. Fruits average about 2–3 lb, so they chill quickly and fit easily in the fridge.
This heirloom is adaptable and early for a melon, making it a great choice for short seasons or anyone who wants real melon flavor without sprawling giants. Plants are vigorous but manageable; give them sun, warmth, and decent airflow and they’ll reward you with a steady set of petite, gourmet melons.
