You have probably heard of St. Joh's Wort, but did you know how beautiful the flowers were? They remind of caper flowers, only yellow. The petals are yellow with red tipped stamens when fully open.
The plant is most beneficial when eaten fresh. The flowers appear in summer. Cut the top 2-3 inches of the plant, to utilize the flowers, flower buds. If you crush some buds between your fingers, you should see a reddish tinge.

Please note that while St John's wort is used for its medicinal qualities in humans, ingestion of St John's wort by cats and dogs can cause temporary photosensitization (sensitivity to sunlight on areas of the skin that are white or non-pigmented) and digestive issues. Exercise caution around pets.
