Fritillaria camschatcensis, commonly known as the Kamchatka Lily or Chocolate Lily, is a unique and striking flowering plant native to regions of North America, particularly in the western United States and parts of Canada.

The color of the flowers can vary, but they are most often black to deep maroon to chocolate brown, which gives the plant its common name, “Chocolate Lily.” The petals may have a glossy appearance. They typically bloom in spring, usually from April to June, depending on local climate and growing conditions.
The plant features lance-shaped or linear leaves that are often arranged in whorls or pairs along the stem. The leaves are typically green and can reach lengths of 3 to 6 inches
It typically grows to a height of about 8 to 16 inches
Perennial zones 5-8
The seeds require a period of cold stratification to break dormancy. Seeds can be planted in fall for a spring emergence or cold stratified in your refrigerator. Simply fold seeds into a moist paper towel and seal in ziploc bag and place in your refrigerator for 120 days, then sow as normal.
