Name Clarification (Important)
Desert Bluebells (Phacelia campanularia) are often confused with California Bluebells, which are a different species (Phacelia minor). In the seed trade, California Bluebells are commonly mislabeled as Phacelia campanularia, which leads to a lot of confusion. The seeds offered here are true Desert Bluebells / Arizona Bluebells (Phacelia campanularia), a species native to the Southwestern deserts and known for its larger, more vivid blue flowers and superior heat tolerance.
Desert Bluebells Seeds (Phacelia campanularia)
Desert Bluebells are one of the most striking wildflowers of the Southwest, producing intense cobalt-blue, bell-shaped flowers that seem to glow against desert soil. Blooming in early spring after winter rains, this fast-growing annual creates vivid carpets of color in native gardens, rock gardens, and wildflower plantings. You may also hear this plant referred to as Arizona Bluebells, a common regional name that reflects how closely it’s associated with desert spring blooms in Arizona and the surrounding Southwest.
Naturally adapted to hot, arid environments, Desert Bluebells thrive in full sun and well-drained soil, requiring very little care once established. Their bold blue flowers are a magnet for native bees and other pollinators, and they pair beautifully with poppies, lupines, and other desert annuals. Easy to grow and incredibly rewarding, this is a must-have for anyone wanting true desert color in early spring.
