This perennial species is easily recognized by its deeply lobed, fig-like foliage, setting it apart from the more familiar Alcea rosea. Tall, sturdy stalks rise 5–7 feet and carry elegant single blooms in delicate pastel shades of pink, peach, cream, lavender, and soft yellow, each highlighted with a warm golden throat that glows in the summer sun.
 
Unlike the biennial A. rosea, the fig-leaved hollyhock is a true perennial, reliably returning for multiple seasons in full sun and well-drained soil.
