This heirloom variety is a vigorous and reliable producer, known for its uniquely shaped, elongated plum-like fruits that ripen to a stunning deep purple or reddish-purple color. These tomatoes typically grow to about 3–4 inches long and have a dense, meaty texture with few seeds, making them perfect for sauces, salsas, roasting, or enjoying fresh in salads.

When growing Ukrainian Purple tomatoes, start your seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last expected frost date in your area. They thrive in full sun and nutrient-rich, well-draining soil, so be sure to prepare your garden bed or containers accordingly. Once the danger of frost has passed and the seedlings are strong (about 6–8 inches tall), transplant them outdoors, spacing them about 18–24 inches apart to give them room to grow.

These tomatoes are indeterminate, meaning the plants will keep growing and producing fruit throughout the season until frost arrives. Provide sturdy support, such as stakes, cages, or trellises, to keep the vines upright and to prevent the fruits from resting on the ground. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry spells, but avoid overwatering to prevent issues like splitting or fungal diseases. Mulching around the plants helps retain soil moisture and regulate temperature.

Ukrainian Purple tomatoes mature in about 70–80 days from transplanting, offering an abundant harvest of rich, sweet, and slightly smoky-flavored fruits.
