Black Cherry (Prunus serotina)
Black Cherry is a fast-growing native hardwood tree valued for its fragrant spring blossoms, glossy green foliage, and clusters of deep purple-black fruit. This stately tree provides food for wildlife, supports pollinators, and produces highly prized wood known for its rich color and durability.
In spring, delicate white flower clusters attract bees and beneficial insects. By late summer, small dark cherries develop, enjoyed by birds and traditionally used in jams, syrups, and preserves.
Black Cherry is an excellent addition to native plantings, food forests, and rewilding projects.
