The Avignon II series is the snapdragon professional cut flower growers reach for when they need reliability, stem strength, and uniform performance in a cool-season planting. Avignon II Lavender brings a soft, dreamy lilac-purple to the lineup. A color that has been increasingly in demand for wedding work, romantic garden palettes, and the kind of muted, sophisticated arrangements that dominate modern floral design.

This is an F1 hybrid bred specifically as a Group 2 snapdragon, meaning it's developed to flower beautifully under short days and cool to moderate temperatures. In practical terms, that makes Avignon II ideal for fall planting, overwintering in an unheated tunnel for early spring flowering, and spring planting in cooler climates. Growers who have struggled with snapdragons bolting too fast or producing weak stems in warmer conditions find that the Avignon II series holds up better than most Group 2 varieties, with strong stems and high-quality blooms even when conditions push slightly outside the ideal range.

The flowers themselves are everything you want in a cut snapdragon. Tall, fully-formed flower spikes packed with dragon-mouthed blooms in a soft lavender that reads romantic in the garden and elegant in the vase. Stems are robust and upright, which is the make or break trait for any cut flower, weak-stemmed snapdragons are a heartbreak. When grown as a one-cut crop (no pinching), stems can reach the full height of the plant, giving you statement-length flowers for high-end arrangements. The variety is also highly fragrant, which is a quality that has been bred out of many modern cut flower snapdragons but is preserved in the Avignon series.

In the vase, expect 7 to 10 days of vase life with proper post-harvest care. Cut when the bottom one-third of the florets are open and continue conditioning in cool water. The blooms continue opening up the spike, giving you a long display window.

Staking is recommended for tall cut flower production.
For maximum stem length, do not pinch (this is called "one-cut" growing). For more total stems at slightly shorter lengths, pinch when plants reach 6 to 8 inches to encourage branching.
Snapdragons are technically tender perennials but are typically grown as cool-season annuals. They can survive winter in zones 7 and warmer with mulch protection, and may even rebloom the following spring in mild climates.
