Bilberry Seeds (Vaccinium myrtillus) — Cleaned Seed

True European bilberry. Wild woodland fruit. Rare and rewarding from seed. A well known wild-harvested forage food in Medieval times.

Bilberry produces small, deep blue berries prized across Europe for their rich flavor and exceptional nutritional value. Unlike cultivated blueberries, bilberries grow on low, delicate shrubs and produce intensely pigmented fruit with deep purple flesh, long valued for traditional preserves, herbal use, and fresh eating.

This cold-hardy woodland species thrives in acidic soils and cooler climates, forming attractive, low-growing plants with fine green foliage that turns brilliant red in autumn. In spring, small pink bell-shaped flowers appear, followed by the iconic dark berries in summer.

Bilberry is ideal for forest gardens, edible landscapes, and naturalized plantings, especially in regions with cooler winters and acidic soils.

Important: These are cleaned seeds, professionally separated from the fruit pulp and prepared for sowing.

Plant Details:
• Botanical name: Vaccinium myrtillus
• Life cycle: Perennial shrub
• Height: 6–18 inches
• Spread: 12–24 inches
• Light: Partial shade to full sun (cool climates)
• Soil: Acidic, well-drained, organic-rich soil
• Zones: 3–8

Growing from Seed:
Bilberry seeds require cold stratification to break dormancy. Sow on the surface of moist acidic soil and provide 30 days of cold stratification (refrigeration or natural winter conditions). Germination may be slow and irregular. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.

Seed-grown plants require patience but reward growers with hardy, long-lived plants well adapted to natural conditions.

A rare and authentic woodland fruit for collectors, food forests, and gardeners seeking true European bilberry.

This is for approx 20 seeds.
