Kew Blue Salpiglossis (Salpiglossis sinuata), also known as Painted Tongue, is a rare and striking annual celebrated for its velvety, trumpet-shaped blooms. Each petal glows in rich shades of indigo and royal blue, dramatically veined with streaks of gold and violet, giving the flowers the look of hand-painted porcelain.

Originally bred at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, this variety is treasured for its unusual color palette — a cooler-toned cousin to the fiery salpiglossis often seen in cottage gardens. Plants reach 18–24 inches tall with a tidy, upright habit, producing a steady succession of blossoms from midsummer into fall. Perfect for borders, cutting gardens, or containers, Kew Blue adds a touch of rarity and sophistication wherever it’s planted.

While delicate in appearance, salpiglossis thrives in full sun and rich, well-drained soil, rewarding gardeners with weeks of continuous color. Few flowers combine such exotic elegance with easy annual growth.
