These have quite the history as an heirloom variety that originated in Northern Iraq over 1,000 years ago. The name translates to "old melon from Samarra", a city in northern Iraq.

Appearance: Bateekh Samara melons typically have a round to oval shape with a smooth, slightly ribbed rind. The skin is usually light green with darker green stripes or mottling, and it may have a slight netted texture.

Size: They are medium to large-sized melons, ranging from around 2 to 5 kilograms (4.5 to 11 pounds) in weight.

The flesh of Bateekh Samara melons is a brilliant lime green and is exceptionally juicy, tender, and sweet with a pleasant aroma. They are known for their dessert like qualities. The flavor is often described as tropical, with hints of honey and floral notes.

These melons thrive in warm climates with plenty of sunlight and well-drained soil. They are cultivated in regions where summers are hot and dry, which helps concentrate their sugars and flavors.
