Tridens flavus, commonly known as purpletop tridens, is a warm-season perennial grass native to North America. It's found in a variety of habitats, including prairies, meadows, open woods, and roadsides. This grass species is known for its purple flowerheads, which appear in late summer to fall, and its ability to grow in a wide range of soil types.

Tridens flavus is an important forage plant for livestock and also provides habitat and food for various wildlife species. Native to the majority of the central and southeastern US.

Cold stratification is normally not necessary for germination but can improve it. Seeds can be planted in fall, winter or spring.
