Wild bergamot, a type of bee balm is very attractive to pollinators with beautiful sweet smelling purple blooms and minty smelling and tasting leaves.
It has been used as a medicinal plant for centuries by several Indian tribes, who would make a tea out of it
Oil extracted from the plant is how thymol is extracted which is used in modern day mouthwashes and toothpastes to help prevent tooth decay. It is also used to scent perfumes for a sweet minty scent.
This is not to be confused with the Bergamot orange which is also used in perfumes.
All parts of the plant are edible.
