Nothing shows off iceberg lettuce quite like the classic wedge salad. Simply cut a fresh head of homegrown iceberg into quarters, drizzle with tangy blue cheese dressing, and sprinkle generously with crisp bacon crumbles. Add a scattering of diced tomatoes, red onion, or chives, and you have a dish that balances creamy, smoky, salty, and crunchy in every bite. It’s a timeless side that elevates any dinner table, and when made with lettuce you grew yourself, it’s even more satisfying. the iconic crisphead lettuce that has been a kitchen favorite for generations!

Iceberg lettuce forms dense, round heads of tightly packed, pale green leaves. Its refreshing crunch and mild flavor make it one of the most versatile lettuces you can grow, whether you’re layering it on sandwiches, tossing it into mixed greens, or creating a restaurant-quality wedge salad at home.

Iceberg lettuce is prized for its firm texture and cool, juicy bite. Unlike loose-leaf or romaine types, these heads are compact and store well once harvested. In the garden, they thrive in cool weather and reward you with uniform, crisp harvests that feel straight out of a steakhouse kitchen.

A NOTE ON SEED STORAGE:
The key for seed storage is cool, dark and dry. If your temperatures are not quite right for planting, you can keep the seeds viable by keeping them in the plastic bag that I send them in (which is thick and food grade for specifically this purpose,) place that in a paper bag to block light and put it in your refrigerator until you are ready to plant. This can be done with most all seeds and will keep them viable for 1-5 years depending on the species.  If you have a basement, you can store them there as well. A sealed mason jar in a paper bag is also ideal.
